Abstract

Adhering to professional ethics is fundamental in patient care. The primary ethical principle is to respect the patient's autonomy in decision-making.In this study, a patient who was hospitalized in the United States and requested not to receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is reported. Upon returning to Iran, the patient lost consciousness and experienced hypoxemia, leading to the decision to intubate and administer CPR. This raises the question of what should be done in a situation where the healthcare system's regulations differ from the patient's wishes, particularly when it comes to ethical principles such as independence and respect for the patient's decisions and wishes.
